The green way in Burgundy

What a great idea to choose the Burgundy greenway as your vacation destination! Located close to the Hameau des Champs campsite, the route combines all the essential ingredients for a sunny, cultural, natural and gourmet holiday. Hop on your bike: vineyards, hills and medieval towns await you.

What is the “voie verte” in Burgundy?

A ” voie verte” or “greenway ” is a path on which only non-motorized traffic is permitted. Pedestrians, cyclists and sometimes horse riders are all welcome. Each at their own pace, users enjoy a gentle mobility experience in contact with nature and the local heritage.
In Southern Burgundy, the voie verte links Châlon-sur-Saône to Mâcon. Its pleasant route through the vineyards and along the Saône makes it a benchmark among French greenways. Accessible to all, it invites you to unwind in the vineyards of the Mâconnais and Côte Chalonnaise regions. Between vineyards and river, nature is omnipresent along the route.

Stops in wine-producing villages offer a warm, relaxing backdrop. As you pass by medieval villages, abbeys and castles, you’ll discover a remarkable built heritage. And gourmets won’t be left out either, as the route has been awarded the Vélo & Fromages label! Near the greenway, you’ll find cheese-making sites where the Mâconnais and Charolais PDO goat cheeses are showcased. The landscapes and the wealth of architectural and gastronomic heritage promise great rides on the greenway!

Places to discover along the greenway

From Châlon-sur-Saône to Mâcon, picturesque stages will appeal to history buffs, nature lovers and gourmets alike.

The historic town center welcomes you with its half-timbered houses, towers and cathedral. Taste local specialties on Place Saint-Vincent before setting off on the next stage!

Cluny and its abbey

Cormatin castle
